WCHC’s Vol III, pg 134: Per Clara Scarbrough & Andrew Anderson 1984…”The gravesite is on the farm owned in 1984 by Andrew Anderson, known as the old Bowers farm, 1.3 miles W of Hare. Mr. Anderson marked the grave with a metal cross. The grave is located N of his residence & about three city blocks S of the San Gabriel River. As the result of record-breaking rainfall in Sept 1921, a violent flood devastated areas in Williamson County along creeks & rivers, including the San Gabriel River. On Sept 9 & 10, an unprecedented flood on the San Gabriel drowned a number of Mexican laborers, working in the area near Hare. They were transient (seasonal) laborers, & their names were not known. They had lived in two houses built near the San Gabriel River. Eleven bodies of these men were found & placed in a common grave 1.3 miles west of Hare. Others were believed to have drowned, but the bodies not recovered. The coffin for the burial was from lumber retrieved from the flood & collected in the neighborhood of Hare & San Gabriel.”
